E-Course: Personal Care and Dementia

This course discusses the effects that dementia has on personal care tasks or ADLs.

Because dementia is a progressive disease process, the tasks and skills required to perform ADLs independently will be lost.

In addition to the cognitive issues that affect personal care tasks; other influences, such as the environment, physical issues, psychological issues, and even the caregiver approach can either be supportive or disabling to a person with dementia.  Measures to prevent restiveness and to enhance the success and pleasure for activities of daily living will be described

The personal care tasks that are detailed in this E-learning module include:

  • Oral care
  • Bathing
  • Mealtimes
  • Eating
  • Dressing
  • Toileting
